Bubbles--The famous "Bubbles" print by Pears Soap is an 1886 advertising masterpiece based on an oil painting by artist Sir John Everett Millais

The Artist: Sir John Everett Millais painted his four-year-old grandson, William James, blowing soap bubbles.

The Purchase: Thomas Barratt, head of Pears Soap, bought the painting in 1886 for £2,200 (and later added a bar of Pears Soap to the bottom foreground of the image to turn it into an advertisement).
